Every user in your company receives a unique REM/Rate database Login ID and Password, managed completely from within the web app. Energy Modeling staff can set up the REM/Rate system without assistance from technical staff, and your business improves security by automatically managing database access.

Getting New Credentials

Every time you change computers or need to lookup database information, a new Login ID and Password will be generated for you. HouseRater makes it fast and easy for finding these credentials.

  1. Open your Profile page from the dropdown in the top right corner of HouseRater, or by selecting a user from the Users list.

  2. Select "Setup REM/Rate Sync" link from the additional options near the "Save" button on this page. You will need the User ID and Password from this page in two locations during the setup process.

  3. Follow the setup instructions in this window, which are the same instructions as below.

Note: Every time you select this link, your old credentials will be removed, so you'll need to follow our Upgrading REM/Rate Desktop guide for entering new credentials into the desktop software.

Configuring Windows and REM/Rate for Syncronization

The instructions below may vary depending on the version of Windows and REM/Rate installed on your computer. If you have trouble setting REM/Rate up, our team is available to help using the live chat button in the corner of your screen.

Launch the Windows "Control Panel" program.

Select "System and Security" in Control Panel, followed by the title "Administrative Tools" in the selected page. Double click "Data Sources (ODBC)" from the Administrative Tools list to launch this program.

In Data Sources, select "Add...," and choose either the "SQL Server," or "ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server" option (either one works, but some Windows installations only show one option).

Select "Finish," which will then open a new configuration window for setting up the new connection. We are going to give the REM/Rate Sync Database a "Name" and "Description" to help you recognize the connection. Complete the "Server" field with the URL from the window in HouseRater.

Click "Next >" and change the authenticity configuration to "With SQL Server authentication using a User ID and password entered by the user."

Enter the User ID and Password described from the window in HouseRater. You will need the User ID and Password from this page again later during the setup process. Choose "Next >" repeatedly, leaving the default configuration options, followed by "Finish" on the final page.

Note: You may optionally test the connection details before saving the new configuration to the Data Sources (ODBC) program.

Quit and relaunch REM/Rate, and select "Tools" > "Export" > "Setup Export Database..." From here, change the buttons to the "SQL Server" option, and select the Name you entered for the new Data Source added earlier, followed by the "Select" button to configure this connection.

Enter the same User ID and Password from earlier in the "Database Permission" section, which is visible in the window within the HouseRater web app. Click "OK" to confirm the connection, and "OK" again to finish adding the Export Database.

Using Your REM/Rate Database

Now that you're all set up, you should be good-to-go on Syncing a REM/Rate House and importing final results into our system.
